Comedy Central Arabia successful launch in May 2016, paved the way for comedians in the Middle East. Taking Comedy Central’s successful international format; Comedy Central Presents ... كوميدي عالواقف, a new genre of production was introduced to the region. This Stand Up comedy format offered aspiring comedians a platform to perform and deliver localized, relatable comedic content to enjoy. The initiative focused on uncovering emerging talent from across the region and bringing them together with established Arab comedians, mixing performances of up-and-coming comics with those of well-established industry veterans, Emirati, Ali Al Sayed and Palestinian born Mo Amer. Working closely with over 30 of the region's most promising Arab comedians, the show delivered an eclectic fusion of humor that took a hilarious look at Middle Eastern traditions and cultures.’ Comedy Central Presents’ gave audiences an exciting and exclusive, but also relatable experience, while at the same time, the show provided performers with a unique opportunity to meet fellow comedians, improve their work and be inspired. After last year’s success, Comedy Central Arabia is now producing two more seasons that will featuring more than 70 comedians, some of whom have been discovered at local Comedy Central open mic tours in Jordan, Lebanon and Egypt, aimed at nurturing local comedy scenes as the brand continues its mission to invest in Middle Eastern talent development. Local comedian Ali Al Sayed says: “I’ve had multiple dreams about being on this show. Comedy Central is where comedians go to tell jokes. It’s a network that was built for that purpose, this is what Comedy Central does, and they make comedy.” Comedian and guest on the show, Wissam Kamal continues: “When I was a teenager, I told my cousin that one day I'll do something for Comedy Central, I'll be part of it. Now this dream came true. It is both a huge and a small step in my career. A huge step as a stand-up comic and a small step as part of Comedy Central. Meeting, talking and watching Arab comics was a beautiful treat, I got to learn from them and laugh with them as they did with me. It's a beautiful comedy culture mix-up."
